Stock Photos: 5 Tips to Make Them Work for Your Brand

We already talked about the importance of branding your blog images (read post here), but how can you make stock photos work for your brand? Let me share with you 5 easy steps to make your site and social media stand out.

1. Use filters

Stock photos are already edited and in high-quality format, but this doesn’t mean you can’t add your own filters to them. This is a great way to show your unique style and unify them to fit your brand identity.

An easy way to do this is by adding a fill layer in a soft light mode to an image using Photoshop. This allows the tone of the light to change, while still keeping the same colors and not altering it as much.

For example, if you are all about a romantic style, you can add a soft cream or blush color layer to all your images. You can use the same type of filters for both Instagram and blog, keeping your brand cohesive.

2. Zoom In

If you find a photo that has many elements in it, try zooming in your favorite ones and get another perspective. This is a very easy trick that works great with styled stock photos and flat lays since these usually have many objects.

If you use stock photography for social media, such as Instagram, this is the perfect way to highlight certain elements and make them fit your brand, while making them look different.

3. Flip It

Make a stock photo look completely different by playing with it even more. If you go to Photoshop and choose the transform tool, you can easily flip it horizontally or vertically and change the perspective of the photo.

While this might be a small change, it will make a huge difference when using stock photos to fit your brand.

4. Add some text

This is probably the easiest way to make a stock photo stand out from the crowd, by adding text with quotes, post titles, and even your logo to showcase your branding.

This is also the perfect way for your audience to recognize your graphics out there and share your content.

5. Add unique shapes

Get creative and use unique shapes to add your stock photos. An easy way to do this is by using clipping masks in Photoshop or choose one of the many options that Canva has to offer.

This is the perfect way to create original social media covers and blog posts images as well.
