Time to Stop Learning and Start Doing

For the last few years, the number of online courses offered by small business owners has increased. It’s exciting to see that creatives from different niches are willing to share their knowledge with their peers, which is a big tool for both those who are just starting out and for those who have been around for a while. But what happens when it’s time to stop learning and start doing?

I’m a firm believer in the fact that you should always seek ways to keep learning. This is even more important nowadays since everything is moving so fast. If you only keep using what you know, then you might be left behind. Last year, one of my goals was to improve those areas of my business that I didn’t feel 100% comfortable with, such as social media, Instagram in particular. Once I found the one that had amazing reviews, I didn’t hesitate in enrolling.

The results? Even better than I imagined. It was very easy to go through the course and apply what I had learned. I even started seeing results from the start.

Feeling excited about learning more, I decided to enroll in a Pinterest course this time. Again, I was pleased with the information I was getting. Soon I that same interest in finding out what I was missing came and then I realized that even though I was learning a lot, I wasn’t doing enough.

I found myself constantly searching for more online programs, sometimes even feeling insecure about what I already knew. I felt like I needed to have every single piece of information to be ready to start executing.

Have you ever been in this situation? The thing is, investing in your education and having that urge to learn as much as you can is a great quality to have. Even if you are a professional in your field and have been working for 10 years, there is always something new to catch up with. If you are up to date with what’s going on around you, you can be more prepared to face any challenges you get.

It’s amazing to have that many options to choose from. You can now get to learn from the comfort of your home, without having to invest that much time into it, going at your own pace.

While I encourage you to try it, taking time between your courses is a smart move, this allows you to apply everything you learn and see if it works for you.

Don’t know if this is what you are going through? Well, here are 5 signs that mean you should stop learning and start doing.

01. You are constantly searching for new courses
02. You already signed up for 10 different ones and haven’t even finished the first one
03. You feel overwhelmed with the information you are getting, that don’t even know where to start
04. You are constantly comparing your blog/business with someone else’s and don’t feel confident about it
05. You get mixed information on each course, so you end up feeling confused and overwhelmed

I know the feeling. Like I mentioned before, you should always feel curious about what’s out there, but taking the time to apply that knowledge is extremely important.

I know what you are thinking – “How do we fix this?” If these signs apply to you, then here are 5 tips to follow when it’s time to stop learning and start doing.

You will never feel 100% prepared

Sometimes the fear of failure can get in the way of you taking the very first step. You may think that because you don’t feel 100% prepared, the best thing to do is to just keep researching, learning as much as you can.

While you need to make sure you have the tools you need, let me tell you something: You will never feel completely ready to start. Even if you have invested all the time you can into it when the moment comes there’s always going to be something you think you can improve.

This is something that doesn’t only happens when you are starting your own business. It can happen even happen when you are getting ready to publishing that very first blog post or launching that webinar you’ve always wanted to.

When you are feeling like this, even after you’ve prepared yourself to get things going, remember that you just need to start doing.

You don’t need to know everything

You took that amazing course on social media…done! But wait, there is that new one about Instagram…done! Oh no, there’s that one on Facebook ads that looks even more complete…done! But, you need to know all about Pinterest before you start your blog…done! Well, that was exhausting.

There’s no way you are going to know everything there is to know about a topic before you even start applying your knowledge. The world is constantly evolving and there is always something new to learn.

Set specific goals for your business

Before you enroll in that course, think about what you want to accomplish with it. Sure, the outline of it looks impressive and it promises you to get results right way. But remember to think about how you are going to apply that knowledge into your own field.

It all starts with setting your goals. Weekly, monthly, yearly, whatever works for you best. Think about where you want your business to be and what you need to do to get there.

This will help you define what you need to improve, then decide if you really need to take that course.

Your own path will look different

There are so many posts out there about “How taking this course changed my business” or “10 Courses you need to take today”. I actually enjoy them, it’s the way you can discover new tools for you.

That doesn’t mean that you need to take the exact same steps as someone else just because it worked for them. Your own path will look different simply because there are things that are going to work for you and others that won’t.

Set your own goals and see if what they are sharing might be exactly what you need before you start doing the work.

Trust your own skills

If there is one thing that will make the difference in your success is trusting your own skills. Have confidence in your talent, in what you have to offer to the world, and value your own perspective.

Trust that you have done everything you can, that you will all you have to reach your goals, and that you will commit to this new endeavor.

No matter how many courses you take, how many blog posts you read, you have something that is unique: your talent. We all have something special to give, so trust that it’s time to start doing.
